Compressed natural gas ( CNG) is natural gas under pressure which remains clear, odourless, and non-corrosive. Although vehicles can use natural gas as either a liquid or a gas.
CNG is stored under high pressure; however, the range of flammability and combustion is much more narrow with CNG making it safe, CNG will not burn at concentrations below 5% or above about 15% when mixed with air.
An odorant is added to provide a distinctive and intentionally disagreeable smell that is easy to recognize.
The odour is detectable at one-fifth of the gas’ lower flammability limit.
