Description
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a poisonous, colourless, odourless, and tasteless gas.
CO is a common industrial hazard resulting from the incomplete burning of natural gas and any other material containing carbon such as gasoline, kerosene, oil, propane, coal, or wood.
At standard temperature and pressure, two atoms of the element bind to form dioxygen, a colourless and odourless diatomic gas with the formula O. 2.
Diatomic oxygen gas constitutes 20.8% of the Earth’s atmosphere. As compounds including oxides, the element makes up almost half of the Earth’s crust.
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a colourless gas known for its “rotten egg” smell. It is extremely flammable and highly toxic.
Hydrogen sulfide may be a safety issuefor workers in a number of industries, including oil and gas refining, mining, tanning, pulp and paper processing, and rayon manufacturing.
